Should I Build an Email List?
I am someone who loves to have a list for everything; from my to-do list to eating list, shopping list, to everything list, I mean, I must have a list. My reason is that it helps me organize things better and I can achieve more without forgetting almost anything.
For someone like me, having an email list will be of importance while for others it might look less important but I will take you through a few reasons why you should have an email list after explaining first what it means.
So what is an email list? This simply explained is a compilation of names and email addresses of people who have subscribed to your website, blog, business or manually.
Through the email addresses gotten, bulk emails are sent to individuals concerning various things in line with what you subscribed for.
With the understanding of that, why are they important?
Targeted Audience
You don’t send emails to random people, I get upset when I receive a mail from a company that I don’t know. Like how do they do that?
Having an email list helps you get emails to those who subscribed to your website or newsletters.
Most times when using mailing tools, some segmentations could be created for people who subscribed for a particular product and at a particular time.
Having that helps get your message across to people who might need them which also gets you the response you need.
Personal Connection
So I remember when I started getting emails beginning with ‘Dear Vicky’, oh my goodness the way I felt. It gave me a sense of importance to the company, that they took out time to send a personalized message to me.
Even if I found out later that there was a way to personalize emails, it still didn’t and hasn’t taken away that feeling.
From my discussions, I have found out that most individuals like when they can easily relate to their mails.
Having an email list helps you get the preferred names of individuals and builds a personal connection with the readers. I mean who would not want that?
Purposeful
Have you ever gotten some of those emails that are just full of ads and pictures? For me, it’s like blowing the opportunity of having these email addresses.
From your email list, you can know what each individual subscribed for, therefore having an idea of what they are interested in.
This gives you a heads up on building a relationship with them, sending them updates on what they need and products relating to that.
Direct
Unlike other communication and marketing tools, emails give you direct contact to individuals. It doesn’t have an expiry date.
Mails can be checked by individuals at any point and when a response is given, information about the person and what exactly he/she subscribed for initially can be retrieved.
Organized
For me, the greatest gift about having an email list is the organization associated with it, it makes the work easier. Being organized is a key thing in every organization, pun intended.
From the structure of the company to the seemingly little things like an email list.
Having an organized structure of email lists of subscribers is vital as it helps you get across to individuals easily without missing out any email address.
